05/09/2015 Dave Nuttall testimonial game

A 30 over game was organized to celebrate Dave's outstanding contribution to the club over the last 30 years.

A mixture of players past and present turned out to show their appreciation. The Menorca side skippered by Simon ("Dot") Cotton choose to wield the willow first Dave (el gato)) Catterall & Roy (just for men) Sturgeon got Menorca off to a steady start before Nizzy (spice boy) Hossan and Bob (the lips) Porter formed a ensemble to remove Sturgeon for 12. Barker and Catterall then set about the attack and were piling on the runs when David (nutty) Nuttall invoked a rule change and made them both retire. Joe ( budgie) Brayne carried on in the same vain and was also forced to retire. Menorca posting a formidable 194 from their allotment. Economical bowling figures from James (bubba) Davies and Nizzy Hossan the others unfortunately leaving rather a lot to be desired.

In reply James (bubba) Davies & Andy (tiger) Tysoe got Nuttall's team off to a flying start before the youngster was sent packing for 18. Tiger was in typically defiant mood, nudging & nurdling his way to 29 before falling to the guile of John (fester) Long. Bob (the lips) Porter was batting down the jubilee line whilst the bowling from Catterall was predominantly being launched down the northern however he did make 35*

actionThe man of the moment came to the crease and preceded to make the Menorca bowling attack look far more threatening than it actually was. Paul (mas te vicario) Strudwick creating major difficulties for Nuttall in particular. The game wouldn't have been complete without some confusion between Mike (my round) Morris and David (nutty) Nuttall running between the wicket.

last ball

The final ball of the game was one of the highlights of the day with Nutty bludgeoning Joe (budgie) Brayne back over his bald bonce to the boundary. David's team fell short in the end but cricket and camaraderie were the winners.

arch

In emotional scenes at the end club Chairman Andrew ( may I have more wine) Manners thanked Dave for his tireless contribution and David himself spoke very eloquently about his love for the club and cricket in general. A truly legendary and memorable day at Menorca CC.
